Legislative Consent: Automated Vehicles Bill

The Automated Vehicles Bill (the Bill) was introduced in the House of Commons on 8 November 2023.

The long title to the Bill notes that it is “A Bill to regulate the use of automated vehicles on roads and in other public places; and to make other provision in relation to vehicle automation.”

The Bill is subject to the legislative consent process under Standing Order 29. This is when the consent of the Welsh Parliament is sought by the UK Government to legislate on an issue which falls within the competence of the Senedd.

The Legislative Consent Motion for the Automated Vehicles Bill was agreed in Plenary on 23 April 2024.

The Automated Vehicles Bill became an Act on 20 May 2024.

The Business Committee referred the SLCM to the Climate Change, Environment and Infrastructure Committee and the Legislation, Justice and Constitution Committee, with a reporting deadline of 22 April 2024 (PDF 38KB).

The Legislation, Justice and Constitution Committee laid its report (PDF 166KB) on 22 April 2024. The Welsh Government responded (PDF 233KB) to the report on 21 June 2024.
