The Committee noted that communications guidance for community and town councils has now been published and that this outlines the statutory requirements and good practice advice. In light of this, and the limited time remaining in this Senedd term, the Committee agreed to close the petition and thank the petitioner.

The Committee considered further correspondence and agreed to await the publication of new Welsh Government guidance about increasing public engagement in the work of community and town councils, expected in March 2020.

The Committee considered further correspondence and agreed to write to the Minister for Housing and Local Government to ask what guidance is provided to community and town councils in relation to the ability of the public or journalists to record meetings.

The Committee considered the petition for the first time and agreed to write back to the Minister for Housing and Local Government to seek her response to the proposal that there should be a right for members of the public and the press to record and report on council meetings, including those held by town and community councils.
